Gili Meno – A perfect start for a trip around the Sunda Islands

We arrived at the airport in Mataram and went from there to Senggigi where we stayed for one night…. Stretching our legs a little after the long trip to continue along the next day from Banjal to Gili Meno… A tropical paradise… Well it’s a little bit in a state of needed repair or at least our hotel was.

But if you’re in need of some relaxing time this is the perfect start for a tour around the Sunda Islands. We did a bit of snorkeling (beautiful!) carefully had some sunshine and walked around the small island. Most of the time when you’re on a round trip, you arrive and than immediately start your travel. Beach is usually something you reserve for the end part but I really liked the fact that it was the other way around this time.

The climate and the other conditions we faced in the other islands (we visited Lombok, Sumba, Sumbawa, Komodo, Flores and Bali) were all so different that it was nice to just relax and get used to the heat a bit. There are three Gili islands; Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air. All of them are supposedly really laid back but I have also heard stories where some of the areas on the islands are really for partying. Fine if you’re into that but if you’re looking more for some relaxing time going to Kontiki (where we were) is a good spot.

Freshly prepared food at the various restaurants in Gili Meno | papertravels.com

I loved the little restaurants where you can get freshly caught fish or just some noodles. And what is better than lounging on a bed looking out over the sea?

Travelling makes my heart beat just a little faster. Ever since I can remember I have wanted to discover the world and experience other cultures. Ever since our first far away trip to Mexico in 1997 I love to explore outside of Europe. Having said that: there is so much to see closer to home still! Combining travel with delicious food is the ultimate combination as far as I'm concerned. Of all my travels I have kept journals. That's why this site is called 'Paper Travels"
