Sleeping: Villa L’Orangerie – Curacao

I had explored many options before we booked our trip to Curacao. Did we want a hotel, an appartment or maybe an airbnb space? The choice on Curacao is pretty big. So when I got a tip from Ivonne from  My footprints to have a look at the appartments from Sjaak and Marcel of Villa L’Orangerie I was quickly convinced this is where we wanted to stay!

And to be entirely honest: I didn’t even look at it that closely. It had been a pretty busy period with work and I sort of assumed ‘it would be ok’. Entirely against my normal – control freak – nature but it turned out we couldn’t have wished for a better place. The contact I had before arriving with Sjaak and Marcel was pleasant, clear and fast. Every email was replied to within 24 hours! We had lots of options to have things arranged before our arrival. You have the option to get some groceries in for instance, so depending on when you’ll arrive this can be a really handy feature. We had received a description on how to get to the appartment from the airport and after we picked up our car we had no trouble finding it. It was roughly ten minutes to drive from the airport to our home away from home.

Julianadorp is the neighbourhood where you’ll find the appartments and it’s a bit removed from the centre of Willemstad. If you’re the kind of person that wants to go out every night than you might want to choose a more central location. But if you have a car and don’t mind a short drive than this is the perfect quiet spot to stay. A car is highly recommended on Curacao anyway.

Reception at the appartment could not have been better. We were told all the ins and outs of our appartment and to be honest we were really pleasantly surprised. There are three appartments and all three are spacious, fully equipped, clean and beautiful. I don’t think we’ve ever had a better appartment than this. The appartment even comes with it’s own alarm. There is a safety vault in the room (big enough for a laptop and a camera too), a large fridge and a fabulous terrace with a large dining table and lazy chairs. And of course aircondition, good working wifi, a closed of parking space and it’s affordable too!

The service from Marcel and Sjaak also doesn’t stop with the regular stuff. Our question if we could maybe rent some snorkels anyway resulted in us borrowing two from them. Beachtowels are included in the service against a small price. Anything you want to know about the island? They will do anything to make your stay perfect.

And not in a pushy way either. Really really great. So if you’re thinking of going to Curacao? I can highly recommend the appartments! Be on time because they are popular for a reason!

Travelling makes my heart beat just a little faster. Ever since I can remember I have wanted to discover the world and experience other cultures. Ever since our first far away trip to Mexico in 1997 I love to explore outside of Europe. Having said that: there is so much to see closer to home still! Combining travel with delicious food is the ultimate combination as far as I'm concerned. Of all my travels I have kept journals. That's why this site is called 'Paper Travels"
