Where to sleep on Curacao
Ah Curacao… what can I say; people often ask me what they can do while on Curacao. And sure if you really want to there is plenty of stuff to do on this little island, but part of the charm of Curacao is the fact that there is not a whole lot to do. So you have to take it easy by default. Sounds a bit weird maybe but you’ve gotta go there to experience it.
In short; going to Curacao for a week or two is a no brainer. But where to sleep when you go to Curacao? The options are endless. There is something for every budget and for each preference. From small local B&B’s to large 5 star resorts and anything in between.
So while this list is by no means complete, I give you my 8 favorite places to sleep. In most cases we have been there our selves and sometimes we got a recommendation from friends and sometimes we have been there to eat and look around. Can’t choose? Check my list of where to sleep in Curacao!
Once our very first apartment when we arrived in Curacao and we have been back there a few times since. Sjaak and Marcel, the two Dutch owners, are the best hosts you could ever wish for. The apartments are perfect, spacious, clean and fully equipped. It is located in Julianadorp so not in the center of Willemstad. So you do need a car if you want to stay here but we love the place. And getting to Willemstad takes just 10 short minutes to drive. If you want to be in the middle of the action pick another place. Prices start from € 87,50 (minimum stay for 3 nights)
BOUTIQUE HOTEL BIJ BLAUW
In the ever populair Pietermaai you’ll find a pretty little boutige hotel called Bij Blauw. It’s located by the sea (no beach though) and beautifully done. We only stayed the one night but if I had known how fantastic it was, I would have stayed longer. Absolutely recommended. Prices start from € 104,-.
The Renaissance hotel is located right in the center of Willemstad in the Rif fort. The ideal location if you want to be close to everything and don’t want to hire a car. Most of the activities and restaurants are within walking distance from the hotel. You look out over sea where you can see the giant cruise ships coming and going. The hotel has a prive swimming pool, beach where you can float around undisturbed. The kitchen is top notch too. The hotel is high end and the prices start from € 200,-.
LANDHUIS (Mansion) JAN THIEL
Last year we stayed for more than a week in this fantastic mansion, Jan Thiel. .Each room has it’s own unique size and mood. The prices for the rooms vary, depending on size. Loekie is one of the best hosts you can wish for and will make sure you won’t miss anything. Keep in mind that you might run into a sheep in the hall way here. Sheep Olivia tends to steel the show. Landhuis Jan Thiel is located close to the Jan Thiel bay and beach. You do need a car if you want to stay here. Including in the price of the room is a parking permit for the Jan Thiel area. That comes in handy if you want to go to the beach every day. Prices from € 145,-
Also located in Pietermaai, from just a stone thrown away from Bijblauw is Scuba Lodge. We didn’t sleep here but we usually go here for a good meal once or twice. Scuba lodge is located by the seafront and has a great relaxed atmosphere. Scuba lodge has rooms and apartments with can be financially attractive if you’re going with two couples for instance. Prices start from € 130,-
HOTEL ‘T KLOOSTER
Het Klooster is again located in Pietermaai (which is also handy because it has all the best restaurants right next to your doorstep) and while we didn’t sleep here personally we heard good stories of friends who did stay here. Prices are very reasonable especially considering the location. Price start from € 88,-
Avila is one of the oldest hotels in Curacao but is on a prime spot by the beach. Apart from the beautiful location and great stay you can also have a great meal here. And don’t forget to try one of their signature gin tonic’s. Prices start from € 200,-.
In other words, as you can see, there are some great places to choose from in Curacao. Soms prices are fairly high but keep in mind that you can search for certain discounts and prices tend to get cheaper once you stay longer.
